Elgin Area Convention and Visitors Bureau plays host to Wisconsin Tourists

03/18/2008 – The efforts of the Elgin Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (EACVB) to bring tourism to the area have paid off again. Last week, Thursday, March 13th a motor coach full of 50 passengers embarked on a city wide tour throughout Elgin’s downtown and surrounding areas. The EACVB had the distinct pleasure of “stepping-on” to host a private tour. The motor coach was part of Butler Tours, a company that the Bureau’s Director of Sales, Pete Garlock, had met and courted during one of the many tradeshows Garlock attends each year. Part of the Bureau’s mission is to attract leisure travelers to the area and by attending group tour tradeshows the EACVB is continuing to achieve their goals.

The group, originating mostly from the Madison, WI area, was met by the Bureau’s Director of Marketing, Brent Edwards, for a morning drive throughout Elgin’s downtown. “We wanted to show the group the vast complexity of the City of Elgin and showcase the great diversity of things to see and do while in town.” states Director of Marketing, Brent Edwards.

While speaking to the group on the history, present, and future of the City of Elgin and surrounding areas, Edwards toured them past locations of various interests: Trout Park, Gail Borden Library, The Hemmens Cultural Arts Center, Walton Island, The Centre, Festival Park, The Grand Victoria Casino, the site of the Elgin National Watch Factory, The Observatory, Elgin Public Museum, Lord’s Park, and two historical neighborhoods. “Brent does such a nice job – makes a group feel so welcomed. Elgin is doing some very nice revitalization – you can be proud!” stated Joyce Butler, Group Coordinator for Butler Tours.

The tour was very well received and lasted an hour and a half. “It’s always nice to see the smiles on the faces of your visitors and know that you were part of their wonderful experience.” stated Edwards. “That’s what tourism is all about, the experience.” continued Edwards.
