Family Day Trip on the Fox River Valley

Tired of the same old Saturdays at your house? Is the whole family aching for something else to do in this summer weather? I’ve got a great plan for you – bike along the Fox River Bike Trail together. There’s great places to eat and places to see right along the bike trail, so you won’t have to go far to enjoy a full day of new sights.

I suggest starting in South Elgin and working your way to the Dundee communities. Start with visiting the Fox River Trolley Museum. The family can learn about the old-time trolley cars and take a ride on one of them. Next, bike up to Elgin to have lunch at Danny’s Pizza. It’s really close to Gail Borden Public Library, so if you all need a long restful break then go there. They have many classes and events going on daily, so you’ll keep everyone in the family happy. End the day by biking up to East Dundee and having grilled cheese, fries, and frozen custard at Van’s Frozen Custard.

This trail is a bit of a hike, so if you have young children then I would suggest just staying in one community and exploring it. Either way, pick a local restaurant and attraction or park to visit. Choose not to get bored in the summer and make a memorable day with the whole family! Share your day and all of the ideas you thought of for a family day trip by using #OnTheFox.
