Elgin Orchestra Symphony
Music is the food for the soul, and this has never been more true than at the Elgin Orchestra Symphony.
The Hemmens was packed for the opening night of the symphony season and rightly so! After the ESO has won the Illinois Professional Orchestra of the Year four times, why wouldn’t there be standing room only?
I have always been a huge music person. Everything from performing on instruments, singing, and dancing; music is my blood. So to be able to go to the symphony made me incredibly excited! The most thrilling thing about any performance is the hush that falls over the audience when the lights go down. This is where the magic happens. The first song that started the evening out was called the Festive Overture by Shostakovich and not two minutes into the song my eyes were filled with tears from the beauty of this overture. It was a great precursor for the rest of the evening.
Simone Porter did a star appearance for the Concerto D of Tchaikovsky and mesmerized the audience along with myself. There is something hauntingly entrancing about a violin. A well-played violin is not just a mere instrument; it is an entity. Porter played the most intricate composition with a breathless ease that kept me on the edge of my seat until she received two standing ovations. The final song of the evening played from Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances left me with goosebumps for the rest of the night. It’s safe to say that I will be coming back again, next month!
