“Autumn…the year’s last, loveliest smile.”
There is a chill in the air. The same chill that creeps into our homes and makes us pull the blanket a little closer; drink the hot chocolate a little faster. Nightmare on Chicago Street is just around the corner (Oct. 22); caramel apples beckon us to taste their buttery sweet deliciousness. Pumpkins are everywhere and in everything. Elgin is now draped in brilliant colors of reds, yellow, oranges, and purples. Autumn has finally come to the Fox River Valley.
By this point I feel like I should tell you, Autumn is my favorite season. Everything has a pinch of cinnamon and magic before winter covers everything in a white blanket. Incidentally, my favorite quote is also about my favorite season. William Cullen Bryant’s poem titled Indian Summer puts autumn into perfect perception with this quote:
“Autumn…the year’s last, loveliest smile.”
I might be completely biased, but it doesn’t make it any less real. So this weekend, grab your bike, running shoes, or camera on the Elgin Bike Trail and pack a lunch picnic style. Enjoy the year’s last, loveliest smile.
Hey there! My name is Sarah, and I am the Tourism Promoter and Events Coordinator for the Elgin Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (it’s a mouthful, I know). I’m a newbie to the Elgin area so I will be telling you first-hand accounts of events and attractions found in Elgin, through my eyes! I’ll share my adventures through videos, photography, and words.
